Happy new year!! Welcome back everyone to a new year and a new term at Scoil Cholmcille. We hope that you all has had a well-deserved break and I’m sure the children are looking forward to getting back into a routine in 2018.  ___________________________________________________

A reminder that the school will be closed on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th of February for midterm. School will re-open on Monday 19th February. The school calendar is available on the school website www.scoilcholmcille.ie.

___________________________________________________The school will be holding an open evening on Tuesday 13th February at 7pm for any parents wishing to enrol their child in the school for September 2018.  This will be an information night for the parents and an opportunity for parents and children to get to know the school and teachers a little better.  Enrolment forms will be available shortly from Caroline in the office. ___________________________________________________

Grandparents day will be Wednesday 31st of January. We would like to invite our Grandparents into the school to help children make St Brigid’s crosses and have some light refreshments. This is an opportunity for the school to show our appreciation of the great work and the role that the grandparents play in their grandchildren’s education. Details of exact times will follow in a few weeks.

___________________________________________________Catholic Schools Week, Moment Two 2018 runs this year from 29th January to 3rd February. There will be a variety of activities happening in the school. The theme this year is: Catholic Schools: Families of Faith.

Thanks to everyone who donated to the annual Saint Vincent De Paul donation box in the school. All donations were greatly appreciated.    ___________________________________________________

Swimming lessons in Templemore sports Complex will commence on 31st of January. 3rd and 4th class will begin a 7-week programme each Wednesday. 5th and 6th class students will follow.  Please remember if you child is attending swimming lessons to ensure they are at the school by 9.10am each morning as the bus needs to leave by 9.15am sharp to make the 10.00am pool time.  We ask parents to return permission slips and monies as promptly as possible.

John Gibbons continues to work with the children in the school for GAA. For the next 4 weeks, John will be working with 5th and 6th class. Please ensure that your child comes with suitable footwear on Fridays.

Donegal Youth Services will be doing an internet safety workshop with the children on Tuesday 30th of January. They will also do a talk/presentation to parents, highlighting issues and concerns around keeping your child safe online. This talk will take place at the school at 7pm on the same day, Tuesday 30th. We urge as many parents to attend as it is sure be a valuable talk.
