Newsletter April 2018



Welcome back and we hope that everyone had a relaxing Easter holiday and are well rested for what is sure to be a busy summer term.


All classes will commence both the Stay Safe and Relationships and Sexual Education lessons in the coming days/weeks. Letters informing you more about these two programmes will be issued shortly.   


Well done to all children who took part in our Seactaine Na Gaeilge last month. It was great to see and hear the children showing off their language skills and their love of everything cultural and Irish.   Maith Sibh!  


The girls and boys soccer teams are currently taking part in various soccer competitions. They continue to represent the school with distinction, displaying great skill, desire and leadership, all qualities which will serve them well in life.


Scoil Cholmcille are delighted to announce that they are taking part in a “Come Dine with Me” fundraising event on Saturday 16th of June. This is sure to be a fun evening for anyone involved as well as providing an opportunity for hosts to display their culinary skills. Many thanks to all those people who have volunteered to be hosts. If you are interested in hosting on the night, please contact the school or Michelle Cavanagh.


We are delighted to announce that the school has been granted a new class teacher for the upcoming school year. Class divisions will be relayed to parents later on in the year.

A reminder that it is important that children are on time each morning.   Please note that all children not in school by 10.30am have to be marked absent, irrespective of any notes to teacher stating that they will be in afterwards. This is due to our new electronic roll books.


First confession for 2nd class will take place this Monday, April 16th in St Pius X Church in Moville at 7pm, while first holy communion will take place on Saturday 26th of May. We wish 2nd class children all the best as they prepare for these sacraments.


Meanwhile the children in 6th class are busy preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation which takes place on Saturday April 21st at 11am in St Pius X in Moville. A rehearsal for sponsors will take place on Thursday 19th at 7pm in Moville. Again we wish all children taking part good luck. 


Active schools week usually occurs in April, this year due to our busy schedule in April we will take part in Active Schools week during June. 


Children in 3rd and 4th class will be doing tin whistle in the summer term. Please ensure that your child has a tin whistle in the key of D so that they can take part in these lessons.


Swimming continues for 5th and 6th class each Wednesday. Please ensure that if your child is going swimming that they are at school no later than 9.10am.

March Newsletter 2018


The rescheduled first confession will now take place on Monday 16th of April in Moville at 7.00pm.   ___________________________________________________

A reminder that the school will be closed this Friday, 9th March to allow staff to gain training on new Child protection regulations. As St. Patrick’s day falls on a Saturday this year the school will closed on Monday 19th as it is a bank holiday. The Easter holidays run from Monday 26th of March to Friday 6st of April. School reopens on Monday 9th of April.

____________________________________________________The parent’s association will be holding a meeting in the school next Tuesday 13th of March at 7.30pm to formally elect a new committee. We urge as many parents as possible to attend.   ___________________________________________________

Well done to all children in 3rd and 4th class who are now currently partaking in swimming lessons. They are all making great progress and enjoying every single moment of it. Please note 3rd and 4th class complete their 7 week block on Wednesday 14th of March. 5th and 6th class will commence their 8 week block of swimming on Wednesday 21st of March. 


The girls soccer team are currently taking part in the Inishowen 6-a-side league. They have been doing the school proud and have put in some spirited performances to date.


It is vital that all parents inform their teachers in relation to any medication that their child is taking in school. The school generally advocates the self-administration of medicines (eg. inhalers) under the supervision of a responsible adult.  Please consult our Administration of medicines policy, available on our website

As part of Seachtain na Gaeilge next week there are a number of activities taking place. Rang a 5 agus a 6 will be attending a tráth na gceist at Gaelscoil Cois Feabhail on Wednesday 14th. Meanwhile there will be a Ceolchoirm on Thursday 15th. On Friday 16th we have our Lá Glas. All children will be asked to dress in green and the children will partake in a Céilí Mor in the school yard.  ____________________________________________________

All children are encouraged to take part by dressing up as their favourite book character or coming to school in their pyjamas with their favourite book under their arm. A reminder too of our World book day photograph competition. Return to School Tomorrow!!! 5/3/18

Please note that school reopens as normal tomorrow (March 5th). Cant wait to here about all the craic that was had!!!


Due to poor weather conditions last week our training day for child protection will now take place this Friday.  School will be closed this Friday 9th of March for children. Staff will be undertaking training on Child Safeguarding and reviewing our child protection procedures within the school as well as drawing up a new safeguarding statement. Thank you for your understanding.

World book day will now take placed on Thursday 8th of March. All children taking part can dress up as their favourite book character or alternatively come to school in their pyjamas with their favourite book under their arm. Thanks to everyone who has taken part in the World book day competition by taking a photo of their child reading in an unusual place. All entrants will go into a draw for a €10 book voucher. Take your photos and email to

The book fair in the school will run from today, Monday 5th  until Thursday 8th,  from2pm-4pm in the GP room.  Parents are welcome to browse and purchase books on display.


Dear parent/guardian a reminder that the school will close on Friday 2nd of March so teachers can complete training in relation to child protection.


Thursday 1st of March is world book day. As usual to celebrate we invite all children to come to school on that day dressed as their favourite character from a book. Another option is to come dressed in your pyjamas with a book under your arm! We hope to put up some photographs of children reading in unusual places on our website. We invite all parents to photograph your child reading a book in an unusual place and email their photo to If you’re looking for some inspiration you can check out for some photos that were sent in last year. All entrants will be entered into a draw for a book voucher.

A reminder that our rescheduled open night for incoming Junior Infants 2018 will now take place  on Wednesday 28th of February from 6pm-7pm. Let’s hope for better weather!!


Patsy Cavanagh will put on a performance/workshop this year for the school on Tuesday 27th of February in the GP hall. Last year the children really enjoyed his depiction of the battle of Clontarf with Brian Boru and the Vikings. This year’s theme is Emigration and I’m sure that it will prove to be both educational and enjoyable for the children. In order to cover the cost of the performance/workshop we ask for a €1.50 contribution from all children.

On Tuesday 13th February, 6 pm-7pm Scoil Cholmcille, Greencastle will hold an open Evening for all children and parents who may wish to enrol in the school for September 2018.

School Christmas Plays December 2017

Well done to all the children from Junior Infants all the way up to 2nd class. You put on two fantastic shows this week. Your teachers, parents and all family and friends are so proud of you all. Maith sibh!


Half Day Friday- Bring your Christmas Jumper-if you have one!

It’s the end of another calendar year at school and the beginning of our Christmas holidays.A reminder that school will close on a half day at 12.00 noon on Friday 22nd. This will be a non uniform day and the children are invited to wear a Christmas Jumper, if they have one. Happy Christmas everyone and see you all again on Monday 8th January!
